For Kids

Artventures

Artventures is an after-school arts mentorship program for students in 2nd through 6th Grade, hosted at Intersect Arts Center. Teaming up with 2 to 3 other students, youth will be matched with an adult Artist Mentor in areas such as painting, drawing, ceramics, fashion, sculpture, and photography.

Two days a week (either Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs) from 3:30-5:00pm, Artist Mentors will lead young artists through explorations of their focus area to help them discover their own unique and creative voice! The Artist Mentor will also serve as a support for young artists by offering homework help, a listening ear, and serving as a role model for children to creatively express themselves.

VISUAL ARTS

Modern Ukrainian Easter Eggs Workshop
Saturday March 15 from 12-4 pm in the Intersect Art Room

Instructed by Katherine Gastler.

Pysanky are traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs with detailed, multicolor designs. The technique is similar to batik, using melted wax to protect the current color of the egg. The egg is gradually dyed with darker colors and additional design details added with wax after each dye. At the end, all the wax is removed to reveal a beautiful, brightly colored egg. In the class, we will learn this technique with the option to create designs that are abstract or that incorporate traditional Ukrainian symbols.

Beginners can follow along to make at least two basic egg designs.

Advanced students from previous years can work more independently, get advice on making your own design or review patterns from books.

Class open to: age 14 and up.

Class Fee: $25, donated to Wide Awake International, to support disabled youth in the Ukraine

Wear clothes and shoes that could leave with wax or dye on them permanently! Please be aware that we will be working with candles to melt the wax. Optional supplies to bring - we will have some to share: egg carton to take your creations home, dish or nitrile gloves, one or two soft rags.

Register here: class limited to 20 participants

Here are some fun picture from past year’s classes 💛
